Geotechnical Investigation is defined as a scientific investigation for finding out the basic features, structure and formation of a soil structure or subsurface feature. Geotechnical (GI) investigation is carried out for civil engineers, land surveyors, geological Surveyors, archaeologists, land surveyors, engineers, contractors, and construction organizations to find out the basic nature, topography, and most importantly, to find out the condition of the features they are investigating. It is a collective term applied to many different specialized scientific processes. It is important to know that these processes can be applied to any earthwork. Geotechnical (GI) investigation is carried out to determine the basic nature, formation, topography, and other physical characteristics of a large number of soil features or land surfaces that support a structure.

Different activities about geotechnical investigation:

Geotechnical investigation is an integral part of civil engineering, planning and construction activities. It mainly involves the study of earthwork features. These include surface features, such as surface elevations, surface textures, and compressive characteristics. It also involves studying the relationship between forces, such as gravitational and dynamic, that cause different earthwork features to slip, slide, or stand on their present position. Forces other than gravity may also be used for changing the position of some features.

Geotechnical investigation is carried out for a wide range of activities. These include civil engineering activities, like site investigation and engineering survey. These techniques are used in a wide range of different domains. Other geotechnical software and computer applications have included soil hydraulics, geotechnical drilling, and database mapping. In the recent past, geotechnical software has been adopted to analyze and map tectonic phenomena, like earthquakes, volcanoes, ice caps, earthquakes, and landslides.

Tools for geotechnical investigation:

The main tools for geotechnical investigation are special software designed to examine earthwork features with various porosity degrees. The depth of a feature can be studied to determine what kind of material (such as clay, shale, or rock) it contains. Many common materials can be analyzed for their porosity. A common type of geotechnical investigation procedure is using a drilling machine to install equipment into a certain area. This is called a geo-structure drill.

Geotechnical equipment used in this field includes geotechnical surveying instruments, such as digital electronic surveying equipment and GPS/GL monitoring equipment. These instruments are used to locate a structure’s position or take stock of a known site. Geotechnical models are also used to study the relationship between different natural phenomena. For example, computer numerical simulation (CNS) methods are used to study ice sheets, earthquakes, and landslides.

Types of geotechnical investigation:

During a geotechnics investigation, two types of ground truth are established. First, the land surface topography can be studied. Features like fault lines, elevations, and elevations of mountain ranges can be studied to establish if and how the surface has changed over time. Second, the structural character of the earthwork can be determined. This includes comparing soils, looking for evidence of compaction or erosion, determining the relationship between soils, mountains, and slabs, determining the presence of slope, and the relationship of surface features like folds, lumps, ridges, depressions, and other facial features. These things are taken into account to determine whether or not an area meets the standard requirements for construction, determining the suitability of materials for the site, and the feasibility of building in that particular area.

Geotechnics has become one of the most important and widely accepted sciences in the last two centuries. Because of this, there have been several different theories and models developed over the years. Many of these geotechnics investigations have focused on a single function, like the control of erosion or earthquake engineering. Other theories, like those regarding plate tectonics, or the movement of tectonic plates on the planet’s surface, have also been incredibly successful in mapping out geology and geoenvironmental patterns that can reveal many fascinating secrets the Earth.

Geotechnics is not as cut and dry as some would think. There are many different layers of science involved in determining the validity of any given geotechnics investigation. The Earth, after all, is a highly complex and dynamic place, and a geotechnics expert has to take into consideration many different factors like the topography of the area, the topography of the soil, and what is happening beneath that topography, among other factors.
